Being a Pre-Service Teacher is not easy you will encounter so many difficult task, trials, problems that may discourage you or worse is, it can stop you if you are weak enough to face all those hurdles as you go along the practice teaching. During my off-campus teaching I had experience the different feelings, excitement, awkwardness, depression, enthusiasm, sentiments, etc. that add spice to my experience.
The first week of my off-campus teaching was full of adjustments, the daily lesson plan, daily instructional materials and paper works that made me dizzy. I slept just in two to three hours just to comply all the necessary things. I don’t want to disappoint my cooperating teacher if I didn’t meet his expectations but sometimes I failed to submit my lesson plan on time and it made me dishearten since I have my goal to be obedient and punctual all the time but it was really hard when you are in the field of teaching because you cannot please people all the time but you can be yourself.
The good thing about being a teacher as I had my off campus teaching is that I was able to inspire my students not only academically but also personally, the thrill of a good and well thought out lesson was incomparable, being able to interact with kids who were mostly good and do try to do what’s expected of them and witness their’ energies; their inquisitiveness and makes me inspire to teach them and push them harder.

My journey of Becoming a Teacher
“Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation.”
-John F. Kennedy
As far as I could remember when I was 8 years old I used to be a teacher to my playmates who are younger than me and now that I already experience the real classroom setting with the different students it was completely different for what I am expecting. Over the past year I learned the ups and downs, the success and failures, the jobs and duties, and the joys and frustrations that define a teacher. My view of teaching continues to be changed, shaped, and formed with each new experience.
When I had my practice teaching in Sagrada Familia High School lots of new experiences I had encountered there were few embarrassing moments and it was difficult but I could handle it, the long hours and behaviorally challenging students were a different story. For the first two weeks we are on the process of adjustments, the daily lesson plans and instructional materials, the other stuffs that were requested by our cooperating teachers and those are the big problems for us as a beginner. It was a weeks and months for growth and exploration and more than anything my dream of becoming a teacher was confirmed and I finally knew that teaching was not easy as I thought.
The next few more weeks allowed me to find myself more as a teacher by creating all of my own lessons and Instructional materials under the guidance of my ever supportive and accommodating CT. It was liberating and exhilarating while challenging and overwhelming, but I loved it. It was a time of experimentation and risk taking and with ever challenging students, there was plenty of time for reflection and growth. Although this journey has been long and at times confusing, one thing has never wavered; my passion for teaching and belief in education. I have experienced amazing education and had wonderful teachers and now it’s my turn to give back and I can’t wait to get started.
