Emcee during the 3rd Quarter Recognition

The 10 weeks practice teaching was just a glimpse of what I will be going through out the profession that I chose. I am very lucky to be given a chance to at least experience a glimpse of the real classroom setting. It was great! Really great that I was like having a roller coaster ride. I felt all the extreme emotions. I was like a bipolar; I changed emotions every 5 minutes.

It was really different and difficult from what I expected it to be. Excitement fills me from the start but after few days I was like, “what is this? I wasn’t expecting this!” But I was trained to be flexible, to adjust from whatever the situation I might have been. And yes, I was able to adjust and adopt from the sleepless nights, stress, disappointments, bundle of paper works and fright of talking in front of the students. I expected lots of suggestions and comments from my Cooperating Teachers for the first two weeks of being a student teacher. The good thing is that I didn’t feel offended of the things that they were saying rather it encouraged me to be a better one. I was very thankful that my Cooperating Teachers were very approachable. But then, there were times that I really couldn’t find strength and courage to continue but with God’s grace I was able to find a reason to continue doing so. It was really different from what I was trained but the learning that I’ve gone through for three and a half year was such a big help for me to overcome and cope with the demands of my profession and the education system in our country. What I went through the 10 weeks training were just a bit if what I will be going through specially that I will be teaching the subject that most of the students hates. With those experiences, I was mold to be a step closer to being a good and inspiring teacher.

Stress + disappointments + weaknesses + bundle of paper works + sleepless nights of preparation + fulfillment + satisfaction + happiness = ONE GREAT EXPERIENCE!

“Teachers have 3 LOVES:

LOVE of learning

LOVE of learners and

LOVE of bringing the first two loves together.”

-Scott Hayden

10 weeks! 10 weeks of sleepless nights, 10 weeks with my beloved lesson plans and instructional materials, 10 weeks with my ever partner coffee in preparing lessons. 10 tough weeks in the field where I see myself few years from now. But those weeks were the best and unforgettable experience that I’ve been through. Those weeks were the ones that I will be treasuring for the rest of my life because I experienced all the extreme emotions that human can feel. Stress and disappointments were always beside me yet it was all covered with happiness, satisfaction and fulfillment in sharing my knowledge and touching the lives of the students. Yes, I will be one good teacher in the near future.

I can still remember that since my childhood years, I really wanted to become a teacher. I had been a teacher to my younger playmates and to my cousins, teaching them the alphabets, numbers and shapes. I even get them punished whenever they forgot to do their homework. Those childhood teaching experiences continued when I was chosen to be a student teacher in Math during the celebration of Teachers’ Day when I was In high school, the feeling was great and I realized that I really love sharing knowledge and teaching. And from then, I never changed my mind of what I want to be in the future. I didn’t imagine myself being an accountant, an engineer or even an architect. When we were being asked of the profession we wanted to be, I would always say that I want to be a teacher. And I’m now on the path of being one. I guess all those teaching experiences I had before college was just a bit of what it really is in the real field. I had experienced an hour or two of sleep every other night to prepare and study my lessons for the 2 year level that I am assigned. Indeed, teaching is a continuous learning. It was really hard but when I was in front of the students, when delivering the lessons I felt so energetic and excited in sharing them what I knew about the topic. Those experiences were great! I learned to love the students. I love their innocence and their simple joys and their fresh eyes as they look at the world. I love the idea of giving those children a set of skills and an outlook that will hold them, solid, brave, and capable as they move through the balance of their academic career and through life.

Teaching is not a small undertaking but I am confident that I will remain dedicated, excited and energetic. It is what I was born to be and I have no doubt in that regard.
